EWJJ mourns the loss of our beloved friend and Partner, J. Richard “Dick” Emens. Dick passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 28, 2023 after a lengthy battle with melanoma. He was 89 years old.

Mr. Emens major areas of practice are Business Planning, Oil/Gas/Water and Coal Law, and Corporate Law. He has advised numerous clients on family business matters, oil and gas leases, mineral deeds, pipeline easements, forced pooling, and represented many clients before state and federal regulatory agencies. Mr. Emens has been included for twenty-five years in the well-known reference book, “Best Lawyers in America”, where he is listed in the categories of Oil and Gas Law, Natural Resources Law, and Corporate Law (the only Ohio lawyer listed in all three categories) and is listed in Super Lawyers. He writes and is a frequent speaker about Oil, Gas and Mineral issues; in the last three years he has spoken to more than 8,000 Ohio landowners about oil and gas leases and pipeline easements.

Ms. Wolper has practiced law in Central Ohio for more than 32 years, with an emphasis on family-owned business and women business owners; estate planning and wealth transfer; outside general counsel to privately held businesses; oil and gas law and acquisitions. She is listed in “Best Lawyers in America” in the Corporate Law category.

Sean Jacobs is a Partner of Emens Wolper Jacobs & Jasin Law Firm, LPA. His primary areas of practice include Oil and Gas Law, Natural Resources Law, Real Estate Law, and Corporate Law.

Kelly Jasin has been with Emens Wolper Jacobs & Jasin Law Firm Co., LPA since 2011, and became a partner in 2016. Her primary areas of practice include Estate Planning, Family Business Succession Planning, Corporate Law and Probate Administration. She also lectures on the topics of estate planning, family-owned business issues and asset protection.

Cody Smith has been with Emens Wolper Jacobs & Jasin Law Firm since 2015. His primary areas of practice include estate planning, pipeline right of ways and easements, and mineral rights disputes under Ohio’s Dormant Mineral Act. Cody also assists landowners with various probate matters including transfers of oil and gas to other generations.

Heidi Kemp is an attorney with Emens Wolper Jacobs & Jasin Law Firm.  Her primary areas of practice include Wills/Trusts/Estate Planning, Oil & Gas law, Family Business Succession Planning, and Probate Administration.

Todd M. Kildow joined the Emens & Wolper St. Clairsville office in April 2018.  Todd focuses his practice on Real Estate Law, Estate & Elder Law Planning, Probate Law/Estate Administration, Oil & Gas/ODMA issues, Commercial Law, Small Business & Limited Liability Companies, Creditor Collections & Foreclosures, and General Civil litigation.  Todd currently serves as counsel to Belmont Savings Bank and Bayer Heritage Federal Credit Union.

Elle Gerwig is an attorney with Emens Wolper Jacobs Jasin Law Firm Co., LPA. Her primary areas of practice include Wills/Trusts/Estate Planning and Family Business. Before joining EWJJ, Elle worked at a law firm focusing on estate planning.
